How to Get Old Parts & What They’re Used For in My Time at Portia
My Time at Portia is a simulation RPG developed by Pathea Games. You’ll be gathering, farming, building, and upgrading your way to being the best workshop in all of Portia.
A big part of becoming the best workshop in town is making sure you have the best equipment, which will come from a myriad of different ways. Old Parts are a resource that can be found in a few specific ways; here’s how to get Old Parts in My Time at Portia.
Finding Old Parts
One item that will help you find Old Parts is the Relic Detector. This will be useful when exploring the Abandoned Ruins, where plenty of Old Parts can be found.
The Relic Detector is given to you the first time you enter the Abandoned Ruins and is equipped automatically. It also does not take up ay inventory space. While walking around the ruins sporadically click the F key to scan for items.
Old Parts can also be found in the Sewage Plant Ruins by breaking crates. This area is easily farmable for Old Parts, so check back frequently if you’re on the hunt.
Becoming friends with the character Merlin will net you two Old Parts occasionally in the mail. So check that mailbox!
Recycling the following items will also garner you a few old parts.
- Fan (2 Old Parts)
- Massage Chair (6 Old Parts)
- Printing Press (3 Old Parts)
- Small Clock (2 Old Parts)
What Old Parts Are Used For
Old Parts are used for a few different things, but their primary use will be for upgrading your worktable. A level 2 worktable will require 5 Old Parts and a level 3 table will need 30.
These can also be traded to the Mysterious Man in exchange for Small Engines.
Old Parts are also used to craft the following items
- Wall Light
- Control Panel
- Waterproof Lamp
- Advanced Trap Box
- Triple Barrel Snakebite
- Vacuum Cleaner
- Grinder
- Water Wheel
- Water Engine
- Forge
Well, that’s everything you need to know about how to get old parts and what they’re used for. For more tips, tricks, and guides be sure to check out Twinfinite.

Old Parts are a useful resource in My Time At Portia. Unfortunately, finding some isn’t always easy.
My Time At Portia is all about building things, from bridges to water towers. But the game doesn’t just hand you every crafting material you require. You have to gather all of the resources yourself. Things like wood and stone are simple to find, but some other materials are a lot more elusive.
Old Parts, for instance, aren’t just left lying out in the open. You need to go to specific places or do certain things to find them. All of that is documented in this guide, alongside what you can do with the Old Parts when you get them.
Ways To Get Old Parts
The game provides you with several different ways to gather Old Parts:
- Find In Abandoned Ruins – Early in the game, the Abandoned Ruins will be where you find many of your materials, including Old Parts. You can use the Relic Detector to track them down. Alternatively, it’s possible to locate them in Parts Boxes which are also within the Abandoned Ruins.
- Find In Sewage Plant – The Sewage is also a ruin, but it’s certainly not abandoned. There are plenty of things inside the place that’ll hurt you, such as Masked Fiends. When defeated, these enemies can sometimes drop Old Parts if you’re lucky. They can also be found in the wooden crates that are around the Plant.
- Become Buddies With Merlin – While Merlin isn’t one of the many people you can romance in the game, there are still benefits to improving your relationship with them. After becoming buddies with the Research Director, she occasionally sends you Old Parts.
- Find In Lucky Sacks – You can purchase Lucky Sacks from the Mysterious Man. And these things are just as mysterious as the man who sells them. The contents are hidden until you open the sack up, and they may contain some Old Parts.
- Recycle Certain Items – Once you craft a Recycle Machine, you can break items down to acquire other resources. To get Old Parts, recycle a Fan, Massage Chair, Printing Press, Or Small Clock.
Uses Of Old Parts
If you’re looking for Old Parts, you probably have a specific use for them in mind. However, there may be a better way to utilize them. Here is everything you can do with the resource:
- Use As Gift – As with most items, you can gift Old Parts to people. Naturally, it’s not the most beloved present in the game. However, Ack appreciates the gesture, and it boosts your relationship with the AI, which can help you acquire their services.
- Trade With The Mysterious Man – When the Mysterious Man comes to the area, you can trade your Old Parts with him. In exchange, he gives you Small Engines, which are important in crafting.
- Construct Worktables – If you want to go to A&G Construction to upgrade your worktable, you need some Old Parts. Five of them are required for the level two worktable, whereas 30 are needed for the level three version.
- Use To Craft – Plenty of crafting recipes include Old Parts. Wall lights, Control Panels, and Water Wheels are just a few of the things that require that specific material.

You find them in the Abandoned Ruins.
i think some mobs have em too
Use “F” scanning at the Abandoned Ruins.
The first Abandonned Ruins have far more than the second ones. Additionally, you find them by breaking crates, which you mostly find in the Hazardous Ruins.
If you can fo the Hazerdous Runins you get tons of old parts in there. I did 5 runs farming Temepering Liquid and ended up with 80 old parts.
If you are not that far yet then the Ruins 1 is your best bet for parts.

Old Parts are something that you will need to get your hands on quite early in My Time At Portia. They are used for crafting, and trading, and you will need them to build some of the very first pieces of equipment you will need for your workshop. You cannot purchase old parts; they can only be found out in the world, or by recycling some items.
You can find old parts in the Abandoned Ruins, using the Relic Detector. When in the Abandoned Ruins, hit F to switch on the Relic Detector, then scan the ground around you. When you see a glowing yellow dot, you have found a Relic! With luck, that Relic will be some Old Parts, but you just have to stay searching and digging until you find them. You can check the below video if you want to see an example of how the Relic Detector works.
If you have the items, you can also get Old Parts by recycling the Fan, Massage Chair, Printing Press or Small Clock items. It is a good idea to stock up on Old Parts, as they have a lot of uses in the game.
Not only do you need them for crafting, but you can also trade Old Parts to the Mysterious Man in exchange for Small Engines. You also need Old Parts to upgrade the worktable in A&G Construction. You will need a total of 35 Old Parts to upgrade it to Level 3.
If you need a lot of Old Parts, and fast, you can try Level 2 of the Hazardous Ruins, as these seem to give the greatest amount. Be warned, it is a little dangerous in there, and you won’t be able to access it in the early game.
