This error is common and highly unspecific. Providing your log file is really the only way to know.
https://steamcommunity.com/app/251570/discussions/0/3196989600456255811/ this is the thread that generally helps, though you didn’t include much info (which version you came from, how many you may have had installed without cleaning game files, etc…) so idk.

Loaded a old game safe from a different build and it quit at the same spot “creating player” Going to go in and delete my existing player and pick one of the preset players and see what happens.
It won’t let me in the player file. Immediately locks with this message in red … “EXC Index out of range Exception: Index was outside bounds of the array.” To answer your questions this is the latest iteration and the previous game files were all deleted at start up of this series. The game file was also cleaned to guarantee a trouble free start. I think my player file is broken but I don’t know how to force my way in to delete it.
Did you clean per the instructions in this thread? If not, you likely missed something. The game is trying to reference something that is no longer there. Either that, or your antivirus is screwing up your download but you say it verfied fine so…
Any way you slice it, your installation is likely corrupted somehow.
Can you tell me how to get into my player file to delete my current file and choose a new vanilla player profile. The problem is in the player file as I just tried starting a new game and when I clicked to set my player it locked with the same “out of range exception” so I think it’s my current player file that is whacked. thanks.
Those files are located in %appdata%/Roaming/7daystodie/saves/Navezgane/My Game
….I’m not sure what all you’d do from here as I’ve never tried what you’re trying. There appears to be a folder and a .XML file containing player info. Some of these file storage locations changed from 20.3 to 20.4exp which may have something to do with your issue. Hopefully someone with a bit more knowledge about this particular issue will chime in.
Thanks for your reply DEDloc . I ended up dumping all the saved games and cleaning the game file again. Re-scanned the game and Steam says it’s fine. Now I’m going to try starting a new game and if the same problem exists I quit and dump the whole 16 GiG game file. Been playing this game since the start and this is the third time a PIMP upload dumped my game. Don’t know if I will have the ambition to reload it. thanks again. bye.
If you have ever downloaded mods, you should also delete your mods folder.
No Mods ever. I ended up dumping the whole game and purging my computer for a third time. Reloaded everything and it’s working. Thinking about seeing if there is a way to block future updates.
That error comes up when there is a version conflict between your installed game and the game version data in Windows Registry. Not uncommon when people update the game version. When you know the game is going to update soon….make a backup of your save files and generated world (in the users folders.) After the game update is applied, you need to run the 7d2d Launcher.exe, swtich to ‘tools’ tab and ‘clean’ the old data (selecting all the checkbox options.) This clears the old values in Windows Registry. Then copy your game save / generate world map back into their appropriate folders. The game should load without issue.

EDIT: IN SHORT, THIS IS ANOTHER ‘STUCK ON CREATING PLAYER’ BUG
I’ve been struggling with this all evening.
Whenever I connect to my regular server, it starts to load, then says ‘Creating Player’, the console comes up and some red text says «NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object».
I have combed through here and the Internet for all possible fixes and I’ve tried every single one.
I’ve tried:
— the trick with the ‘Saves’ folder in the Data folders.
— the full ‘step by step’ deletion of all data by Red Eagle LXIX, including the registry deletion.
— renaming the individual data folder for the server under ‘Random Gen’
— validating cache (twice)
— reinstalling the game (twice)
— restarting steam
— restarting computer
— rebooting router
I can still play Singleplayer and connect to ANY OTHER server online, just not our one.
I shall expect unhelpful responses like «there’s something wrong with the server» but every single other member of my group can connect to it.
Here’s what happened:
> Server was working fine
> Server admin wanted to do some modifications to respawn times and reboot the server
> Server admin did so
> Server rebooted.
> Everyone else can log on except me.
The admin spent the last two hours going through all these «solutions» online with me, trying each one. None of them work.
I’ve tried every solution I could find. Please help.

since the last Alpha i can’t enter the world to my ‘Project’. A toolbar opens and it says ‘NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object’
Can somedody help me? German or English
As far as I know the latest patch accidentally included an instance of the old Save Game folder in the actual game directory with 2 bad saves in it, «My Game» and «My Game1». The updated game uses the My Documents folder for saving by default. As for the old folder path, it seems to cause MANY issues.
NOTE: If you do a Verify Integrity of Game Cache these saves and folder will re-appear thus requiring these steps again. This is likely to be a problem until a new build comes out.
In the Steam Client, Games Library
Right-Click 7 Days To Die
Select and click Properties
Select and click the Local Files tab
Click the Browse Local Files Button
Navigate to the 7 Days To DieDataWorldsNavezgane folder by doing the following:
Double-click the Data folder
Double-click the Worlds folder
Double-click the Navezgane folder
If you see a folder called Saves, delete it.

System.NullReferenceException: ‘Object reference not set to an instance of an object?
System.NullReferenceException: ‘Object reference not set to an instance of an object
Tours tours = new Tours();
public class Tours
<
public List tourInfos < get; set; >= new List();
>

I don’t have a solution or answer at this time.
I do have another question though.
Does this happen only with that save or any game?
I had a similar problem. https://pastebin.com/4PrBmHNc
seems have something to do with spider zombies, as it usually starts spaming the message as they jump at me.
This is an error I already logged bug report on behalf of some users, but now it can be added it to the current Stable Bug Report thread. Thank you for confirming this is still an issue with traps.

I do not know of a way to get that save to load at this time based on the other report I saw.

I received the Null Reference Exception error that appears to affect modders and multi-player users mostly. I’m neither of the above. I play vanilla and solo. Alpha 20 was working fine until today. I watched several YouTube videos and read several post here. Here’s what I have done. Deleted the whole game after deleting all my save game files. Delete Steam. Scrub all traces of both from my computer as best possible. Download again Steam and 7D2D. Started the game and again during and during the initialization screen I received the error message (the screen after you select your play option). Oddly, the last world title I enter prior to deleting all save game files, the game itself, and Steam was shown in the map title box. This leads me to believe somewhere a piece of the game that’s could be creating the error still lives on well beyond my effort to remove it. After receiving the error message still I next attempted going into the game files on my computer. I sought to delete the saved game files. I maybe novice and less skilled than many in the community here but I opened Programs Files (x86)>Steam>steammapps>common>7 Days To Die>Data>Worlds>Navezgane. There were no saved game file in that folder. I do not have a Random Gen folder. I feel like if I could completely wipe the computer of the game and download it “new” it might work. How can this be accomplished or how do I repair the error of possible. Thank you for thr help in advance.

The saves are in
C:Users<your user name>AppDataRoaming7DaysToDie
or
open the RUN command and enter
%userprofile%appdataroaming7DaystoDie
The maps are in ‘GeneratedWorlds’ if you need to move / delete them.
I believe there is a thread for repairing some broken saves.

I’ll move this to the Support forum.
So you know, a null reference exception is the game equivalent of your car’s check engine light. It’s a generic error, which doesn’t really narrow it down to a particular class of problems. The pinned thread in Support should provide instructions for providing a log file among other things.

Doing this fixed the same type of problems I was having! I had saved my saves elsewhere and was able to get them back by following this ~ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wkteeH5gR6s

I’ve tried all of everything above as well and I’m still getting the same error. I’m not sure if it’s unity’s side or something else. I did look on Reddit and someone said it a generic problem of unity’s.
i hope someone has found a fix.
the most weirdest part is, last weekend it was working fine and since I didn’t touch the game until today when I was trying to join my friends server. It’s a 6k world as well he’s using but as I said last week I managed to join him fine.

You need to post a copy of your log file using pastebin. Not all null reference errors are caused by the same thing. The answer to your issue can be found in your log. Post it and someone to suggest a fix.
