Yeah i found out that Compatibility mode is what is crashing my game, but it lags and stutters really bad when its turned off. Also i don’t know how to install the drivers cause i cant even find a Intel driver in the first place when looking at Display Adapters in Device manager. The only thing there is my graphics card (GeForce GTX 1660 ti)

Are you using a laptop with an external monitor connected to a display port?

I would just try clean reinstalling your nvidia graphics drivers using DDU and then disabling compatibility mode. You should definitely be able to play the game without compatibility mode with that graphics card.

i can get osu to run now and at low frames, which is good. but now my tablet is super laggy and pen movements stutter alot. again, this didn’t happen when compatibility mode was on but every time i put it on my game breaks

Is this after you reinstalled your graphics drivers or did it just start working randomly without you doing anything?

Also what CPU do you have?

this is after i reinstalled my graphics drivers

I have a Intel core i5

I would just try downloading the automatic driver detection thing that Intel provides on their website.

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/80939/Graphics-Drivers

Even though nothing was showing up in your device manager, I don’t think it is possible to get this error message without having some Intel requirement. Your processor definitely has integrated graphics, at the very least. Maybe the fact that nothing is showing up in your device manager is also part of the issue.

Its telling me everything is already up to date

You should be able to use that program to find which drivers you need to install and then clean reinstall them using DDU, as I described for your nvidia card.

How do i determine which drivers i need when it already says everything is up to date? It says i have the best drivers already

Does that software not tell you what is up to date? It just tells you that everything is up to date? Interesting.

I ended up fixing it on my own thanks to you, i ended up just changing a bunch of in game settings and messing with my tablet drivers. Thanks

I know this is a old post, but i’m having the same issues and can’t seem to fix it, it seems OSU updated or ran the update thing. This happened on an old computer with similar specs. new computer: i7 8700 (igpu enabled for 2nd monitor) gtx1070ti for main monitor. Old laptop: gtx 1060, i7 hq of some sort. I have tried with one monitor, going into my bios disabling my igpu, disabling my graphics card, reinstalling all drivers, everything listed here. WTF does this glitch have with me lmao.

Video or screenshot showing the problem:

osu! version: Stable 20180811.2

I’d recommend you to check if your Intel graphics drivers are up to date, you can find the newest drivers at Intel’s website.

Temporary fix would be to
-Navigate to your osu! folder there should be a file called osu!.PCNAME.cfg right-click it and open it with notepad go to the Fullscreen line and change it from 1 to 0. Save, and then relaunch osu!

I believe this issue may actually caused by using a separate external monitor, one person was able to fix it using the methods Tobias posted, another was only able to fix it after reinstalling Windows (probably related to drivers), and one person was only able to fix this by rolling back their drivers to a previous version.

The error message is slightly different than what this quote was meant to fix:

OpenGL ES Error

Hello, so two days ago, I’ve tried to open osu! but it gave me an error saying «OpenGL ES Error; Can’t find the Intel graphics» screeshot below and i can’t find a solution.
I saw a couple of posts talking about a similar problem, which said «Can’t find the name of Intel ICD OpenGL driver», I’ve looked at both threads ( 1 and 2 ) and tried different solutions.

I’ve tried downgrading my Intel drivers, running it in compatibility mode, trying to update my drivers again, running the repair osu! and going into my osu!settings and changing «Fullscreen = 1» to «Fullscreen = 0» and this fixed it, yeah, but i have a lot of input lag and can’t play like that, so I switched it back and it stopped working again, so I changed it to 0 once again and it didn’t work anymore.

My Main Specs are

  1. Zotac GTX 1070
  2. Intel I7 7700
  3. 16 gb RAM DDR4

My Error

This is what it says when my osu! crashes, at the back of the crying Pippi

My osu! version: Stable 20190620.4 (latest)

I hope this was enough information, I haven’t tried all the solutions from the threads but, it seems like the ones I didn’t try, didn’t work either.

And I think thats all.

also sorry for bad english xd

Every time i try and open osu! I get a repeating error saying » Cant find the name of intel ICD OpenGl driver.» I have gone to multiple forums with different ways of fixing this issue and some have worked, such as running the game with integrated graphics although Osu! is pretty unplayable when i do this, and i had also rolled back my drivers which did fix the problem although the issue has come back and i’m not allowed for some reason to roll them back.

Here is a link to the text I get when it crashes: https://pastebin.com/WEGd4Mqr

Thanks for any of your help.

For a possible temporary solution, hold shift while starting osu! until a configuration window pops up. From there, disable Compatibility mode and start osu!

If you are unable to open this dialog because of the error, navigate to your osu! folder and edit the file «osu!.pcname.cfg». Set the line «CompatibilityContext» to 0, save the file, and start the game.

For a permanent solution, please make sure your Intel graphics drivers are up to date. Intel released a fix for this specific issues in all of their drivers versions 15.46 and higher. If you get your graphics drivers through a computer manufacturer they may use a different versioning scheme and their most recent drivers may still have this issue. Unless you changed the install path, it should be there.
Try following these directions:

Open your Start Menu or a File Explorer window and type %localappdata% in the address bar.
From there, find your osu! folder and open the osu!.pcname.cfg file with Notepad.
Set the following lines as such;

CompatibilityContext = 0
CanForceOptimusCompatibility = 0

Once you are done, save the file, and then launch osu!

A fix is currently being worked on, but keeps getting pulled because of other issues it causes. So for now, those instructions should work to get your game running.

(Sorry for the late reply)

So i’m not sure how to get around this. Looking through the intel support website, it says my graphics system is up to date with the driver and support assistant.

Looking through some videos they told me where i can uninstall my graphics driver which i don’t even seem to have one.

After this, searching for drivers it seems no intel graphics drivers are compatible with my specific processor. I tried downloading the most appropriate looking driver but it said it was imcompatible.

Any ideas where to go from here?

This is the error i get when i tried this installer. The zip file doesn’t work for that driver either.
I did already try this one as i thought it would be that driver as well but alas i was wrong?
Also just so you know my computer is my own build, not made by one manufacturer and i am running 64 bit windows 10.

Thanks for the help on this though.

Not sure what exactly it is looking for if you built your own computer, maybe it’s checking for one specific part’s manufacturer? There should be a way around that though, but I don’t think it is the best thing to try considering you don’t know what manufacturer it is looking for. I’m very hesitant to have you try.

Do you have an external monitor plugged in and do you have a separate discrete GPU?

Are you absolutely certain? It doesn’t really make sense that you would receive this error message if you don’t have anything plugged into your integrated GPU.

Perhaps you should just try reinstalling your nvidia drivers instead then.

I don’t believe i can do that either, i get no dropdown list allowing me to choose which the game chooses to use.

This is seeming more and more like i can’t run osu due to my cpu 56

^ This was mentioned in the first quote I posted, so definitely try it if you happened to miss it.

If you did try that already, does the game run if you unplug one of your monitors? I don’t entirely understand what causes this issue, but you should definitely be able to run osu! on your setup.

EDIT: someone already posted this but in much less detail.
EDIT2: I read the error in detail and it’s identical to what I get. Try this if you haven’t.

A previous version of this article incorrectly stated that osu! used DirectX. It has now been corrected. Please see issue #8 on GitHub for more information.

This usually occurs because a user enabled Compatibility Mode in osu! settings, or changed to a screen resolution that Wine couldn’t handle.

Standard osu! uses OpenGL which is supported by the Wineskin, while Compatibility Mode will use ANGLE / OpenGL ES which is not supported by osu! Wineskins. This explains why osu! will crash with OpenGL ES-related errors on Compatibility Mode.

Resolution¶

  1. Find your user profile/configuration file.

    • Locate where osu!.app (your Wineskin) is installed

    • Right click on it and select Show Package Contents

    • You should now see three files/folders: Contents, drive_c and Wineskin. Click drive_c.

    • From here, click osu!.

    • From here, locate osu!.yourcomputername.cfg and open this file in a plain text editor such as TextEdit.

For example, my configuration file is osu!.Adrian.cfg and it looks like this:

osu! user configuration file.

Tip

The default name for this file is usually osu!.Apple.cfg

Note

Don’t get confused with osu!.cfg which is a completely different and much smaller configuration file.

Danger

Heed the warning and don’t share this configuration file with anyone else, not even us. It contains hashed versions of your passwords.

  1. You’ll need to either delete or change a number of screen resolution options if you don’t know which is causing osu! to crash. If you know what option is breaking osu!, then you only need to modify/delete that specific option, as listed below.

Compatibility Mode¶

If you enabled Compatibility Mode and now osu! won’t start, find the CompatibilityContext option.

Tip

Use Command + F in TextEdit to quickly search for CompatibilityContext.

Note

osu!macOS Agent will automatically disable Compatibility Mode as part of its troubleshooting steps.

If you did enable it, it would look like this:

Change this to:

Then, start osu!

If you can’t find CompatibilityContext

Add the following line to the bottom of osu!.yourcomputername.cfg:

Then, start osu!

Screen Resolution¶

If you changed the screen resolution to something a bit weird, find these options:

  • Height

  • Width

  • HeightFullscreen

  • WidthFullscreen

Tip

Use Command + F in TextEdit to quickly search for these options.

Then, change the values accordingly to your last known previous settings, or to the recommended values as shown below. You can also delete them to have osu! initialise everything for you again.

Preferably:

  • Height and Width should be Wine’s specified screen resolution (or otherwise, a standard screen resolution like 1920x1080)

  • HeightFullscreen and WidthFullscreen should be your computer’s effective/scaled screen resolution.

Find Wine’s specified screen resolution

If you’re using Virtual Desktop on the X11 driver and need to modify Height and Width:

  1. Locate where osu!.app (your Wineskin) is installed

  2. Right click on it and select Show Package Contents

  3. You should now see three files/folders: Contents, drive_c and Wineskin. Click Wineskin.

  4. Click Set Screen Options

  5. Locate the Screen Resolution dropdown as shown below – what it is set to is Wine’s specified screen resolution:

osu! screen resolution dropdown menu, within the Screen Options menu in Wineskin.

In this example it is 1920x1080. Therefore, Width = 1920 and Height = 1080.

Find your fullscreen resolution

To find osu!’s fullscreen resolution, you need to know your current scaled resolution for the monitor you’re playing osu! on.

Your scaled screen resolution on this monitor is

x

where:

  • Width =
  • Height =

Now, replace the corresponding Height and Width values in osu!.yourcomputername.cfg with those displayed above.

If that didn’t work¶

There could be something else going on here, and performing basic troubleshooting should help you get to the bottom of it.

If you’re not sure what’s going on here, copy any osu! crash logs as well as generating a report with osu!macOS Agent, and let us know on the forums.

Note

Random side note that may or may not be useful to you: (i didn’t have anywhere else to put it)
