Windows
Microsoft Visual C++.
Windows.

Microsoft Visual C++.
C: Program Files (x86)SteamsteamappscommonSteamworks Shared_CommonRedistvcredist .

Tales of Arise has launched for PC with a good reception from critics and gamers alike. However, Tales of Arise PC is facing errors and issues like Fatal Error, in-game crash, no ultrawide support, controller not working, and more. Here I have compiled a list of errors and issues that PC players are experiencing with Tales of Arise along with their fixes and workarounds like how to fix Fatal Error, how to enable Ultrawide, and more.
Tales of Arise is an action RPG developed and published by BANDAI NAMCO. The PC version of the game is well-optimized but, PC players are reporting errors and issues with the game like Fatal Error, in-game crash, no ultrawide support, controller not working, and more.
The following are the errors and issues that PC players are experiencing with Tales of Arise along with their possible fixes and workarounds.
LowLevelFatalError, Fatal Error Fix
According to PC players, Tales of Arise crashes while playing or at launch with the Fatal Error message or LowLevelFatalError as shown below, and here is how to fix it.
LowLevelFatalError [File:Unknown] [Line: 843]
Rendering thread exception:

- One reason for the Fatal Error crash could be your GPU driver. Update or retinal the GPU driver and do a clean installation. This should fix the error.
- If the error persists, then open Command Prompt (CMD) and run it as administrator. Type “sfc /scannow” and press enter. Let the scan complete. This scan will find and repair corrupt OS files and will fix the error.
- Another potential fix for the Fatal Error in the game is to right-click the game in Steam > Properties > type -windowed under Launch Options. This will force the game to launch in Windowed mode fixing the error.
- If you are playing on a laptop, then your Integrated GPU, which almost every CPU has, might be causing the game to crash with LowLevelFatalError. Disable the iGPU and the Fatal Error will be fixed. Open Device Manage > Display Adapters > right-click the Intel or AMD integrated GPU and click Disable. Doing this, all of the display operations will be done by your discrete Nvidia or AMD GPU. This will fix the LowLevelFatalError in Tales Of Arise.
- In case the above fixes didn’t fix the Fatal Error, install the latest Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables and DirectX files to fix the error.
- Another fix for this particular error is to right-click Tales of Arise in Steam > manage > Browse local files and delete the “Engine” folder. Then Right-click the game again in Steam > properties > Local Files > verify the integrity of game files. Let the scan complete and Steam will download the missing files and the Fatal Error will be fixed in Tales Of Arise.
- If all of the above fixes failed to fix the Tales of Arise Fatal Error, your GPU might be the reason why the game is crashing with Fatal Error. Either your GPU is overclocked or the GPU isn’t powerful enough to handle the game’s load. Revert the GPU back to its default GPU Clock if it’s overclocked, If the GPU isn’t overclocked, then try lowering the graphics settings or use MSI Afterburner and reduce the GPU clock by 100 MHz to fix the Fatal Error crash.
- Alternatively, players can limit the game’s Max FPS to fix the error. Open Nvidia Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings > Program Settings > select the game. Enable Max FPS Limit and set the value for the game’s maximum FPS. This is going to be trial and error to find at which FPS the game becomes stable. However, if you are targeting 60 FPS. then cap the game to 30 FPS. If your current target is unlocked FPS, then cap the game to 60 FPS and the Tales Of Arise Fatal Error will be fixed.
Controller Not Working Fix
Tales Of Arise PC players are reporting that their controller isn’t working with the game. Here is how to fix the controller not working issue.
Right-click Tales of Arise > Properties > Controller > General Controller Settings. A new window will open with multiple options. Check Xbox Configuration support and Xbox Extended Feature option if you are using the Xbox controller. Check PlayStation Configuration support if you are using a PlayStation controller. The controller will now work in Tales Of Arise.
In case the error persists, check the workarounds in this link. Hopefully, one of them will fix the controller issue.
Crash Fix
Tales Of Arise PC players report that the game is crashing while playing and here is how to fix it. Using third-party tools or software might be causing the game to crash. Software like MSI Afterburner or RGB Software can crash the game. Disable any third-party software along with Steam overlay and GeForce Experience overlay. The game won’t crash anymore.
Your GPU is another cause of the in-game crash. The GPU is overclocked or it isn’t handling the game’s load very well. Check under “Fatal Error Fix” to see GPU-related fixes for the Tales of Arise in-game crash.
Ultrawide Fix
Tales Of Arise doesn’t support Ultrawide displays which is quite disappointing. However, there is a workaround to it and players can force Ultrwide support for Tales Of Arise on PC. Download Universal Unreal Engine 4 Unlocker, then launch Tales Of Arise and then start Unreal Engine Unlocker. Select Tales of Arise.exe and inject the default .dll and the game will fully utilize the Ultrawide display. If the game doesn’t adjust to the native resolution, then go to Hotsampling and manually adjust it.
That is all for our Tales of Arise fixes for errors and issues like Fatal Error, in-game crash, LowLevelFatalError, controller not working, and more. If you are facing errors and issues with other PC games or your PC then also see our hub for commonly occurring PC errors and their fixes.
Tales of Arise is built on Unreal Engine 4. UE4 is a great engine for making games and it’s one of the most popular engines chosen by developers. But, the engine is not so great when it comes to handling stress. Usually, the cause of the LowLevelFatal Error with games based on this engine is caused due to graphics card volatility that can be due to a range of reasons, but there are other reasons as well that can lead to the error. Stick with this post and we will help you resolve the Tales of Arise Fatal Error Crash (LowLevelFatalError).
Fix Tales of Arise Fatal Error Crash (LowLevelFatalError)
As the LowLevelFatalError is caused due to a stressed-out GPU, the first thing the user should do is update the graphics card driver. Usually, that’s all you need to do to fix the error. If you have been playing the game for a while or your system has not had time to cool off, give it a rest and then play the game again. If these two solutions have not helped, the issue may lie elsewhere. Here is what you can do to fix the Tales of Arise fatal error.
- One of the most effective solutions to the error as we have personally discovered is moving the game to the same SSD as the operating system or the hard drive. It would help if you had an SSD as the main drive with the OS, but moving the game to the hard drive with the OS should also help.
- Update the GPU driver and get the latest Windows update for the OS.
- Do not overclock. OC is one of the main reason for the LowLevelFatalError in games that use the UE4.
- Reinstall the DirectX and Visual C++ Redistributable (2013, 2015, 2017, and 2019)
At the time of writing, these appear to be the best solutions for the Tales of Arise fatal error crash. We will update the post when we know more.

I have tried tinkering with my settings here and there, though my particular issue is weird since it only ever happens on the first time I play each day, and then the second time it works fine after a rPC reboot. So I can’t really reproduce it on command.
I’m speculating it could be driver-related, my Geforce experience just refused to install new drivers so I’ve had to do that manually today.

Is your GPU overclocked ?
That might be a possible cause. Also, try this other 2 solutions, since it’s an issue just at launch this might be a solution

Another thing you should try if none of this work is try a clean install for your drivers, just in case.

I don’t know the first thing about overclocking so no, it isn’t.
I just booted up the game today and it didn’t crash in my first battle, so it could have been the driver being outdated that was doing it since normally it’d crash in the first battle/fishing attempt.
Oh also you seem to misunderstand – in my case the game doesn’t freeze and crash my computer at launch, it usually does it when I load in and the n either fight or fish – after a minute or so of battling/trying to catch a fish, it happens. Then the PC is rebooted, and the game runs fine.
It’s freaking weird since it didn’t even happen the first 3 days I played. My original fatal error happened in the overworld but that never happened again.
I’ll definitely try those other things if it happens again though. 🙂

Oh, that being the case, if it happens again i suggest doing a bit of trial and error limiting the FPS of the game starting from high limit to lower ones, and see if it stays stable.
Glad it works for now, as you say it might have been a driver issue. That’s usually the first thin i check whenever i have anything crash related xD

No need to worry about the FPS, I’ve had it limited to 60 since the start (I tried leaving it on unlimited for one battle only, the visual difference wasn’t enough to justify letting the game jump from 21% GPU to 100% GPU usage) xD
Thanks for being helpful anyway! And sorry to OP for basically hijacking his thread. xD

Welcome, and since a few things have been provided to try and fix the issue, i guess he won’t mind xD

You say that, but this is the only game that this problem happens with. Which brings it back to the game instead.
I’ve tested to play a other UE4 game (DQ xi S) and i got a crash after 15 min. Problem is related to me not the game. I can’t speak about you sorry.
1080ti + 7700k
Playing in ultra 1920/144fps/vsynch, no fps drop at all but random crash.
I tried 1920/60fps/no vsynch lowest settings possible, no crash.
I recommend to try this to those with good computer with no solution at all after trying everything (driver, reinstall, no OC, visualc++…)
I’ll up graphics one by one until i crash.
I’ve got a Ryzen 9 5900X and a GeForce 1080 GTX and have had around 4 crashes in about 16 hours of play so far. It’s annoying, but not a huge deal since the game autosaves fairly frequently. There is no consistency to when it crashes; I’ve had one when I was just walking around, another during a transition between scenes, and another after the game had been idling with the menu open for about ten minutes.
All of my drivers are up to date, no other games are having problems, and I can run stress tests for hours without my CPU going over 70 C. I only use this PC for playing games; the only thing running in the background is Steam.
Unfortunately, when a game has random crashes like this for a wide variety of players with different hardware configurations, the problem is almost always simply due to bugs in the game’s code, and no amount of reinstalling C++ runtimes or rebooting your computer is going to fix that.
Anisotropic filtering was causing crash for me, everything is maxed but I must set anisotropic filtering to low.
This crash issue is not from a small group of people, many players had this issue. I can easily say that from the amount of crash, freeze and fatal error topics.
It’s so random for example you can play the game without any issues for 6 hours but tomorrow when you started the game and 5 minutes later it crashes, freeze, gives fatal error and jumps back to desktop, restarts PC or sometimes crashes whole PC and forced to manual shutdown from power button. It’s so annoying. I benchmarked my components and I didn’t noticed a problem.
I really liked the game but I haven’t got a problem like this before. I tried C++ Redistributable things to repair and it works for a time and I can play the game for a while but I got same problem again after a while. It’s not a heating problem. No OC. Hope they will relase a patch for this issue if this problem really caused because of the game.

Error messages are something that’s unavoidable if you’re into PC gaming and it’s present in almost every AAA game, including Tales of Arise. The impressive JRPG with an anime-like art style and breathable world drew many players and became one of the best-selling fantasy games of all time. However, for a few, the issues of the game can be frustrating and can be a nightmare for those who don’t know what to do when it fetches the fatal error. Luckily there are a few fixes that some of the fans discovered that’ll let you play the game normally and we’ve mentioned some of them here. Continue reading the article to know more about Tales of Arise and how to fix the fatal error.
How to fix Fatal Error in Tales of Arise.
If you’ve bought Tales of Arise and are having issues running it properly, the workarounds listed below will fix the issues and let you dive into the game. Here are some of the solutions that have worked for most players.
Verify integrity of game files on Steam.
Fatal Error is often caused when there’s an incomplete installation and missing/corrupted files in the game. Well, this can be fixed by verifying game files in Steam. Follow the steps below to do so.
- Open Steam, click on Library and locate Tales of Arise on the left side.
- Right-click on the game and select Properties.
- Click on the Local Files tab and then click on “Verify integrity of game files”.
- Let it complete and launch the game and see if the fatal error is fixed or not.
Update GPU Drivers.
If Tales of Arise is constantly crashing, then it might be because of an outdated graphics card driver. All you have to do is head to the official website of NVIDIA or AMD’s official website and download the drivers from there. Once you’re done downloading it, install it and restart your PC. Try running the game to see if the fatal error is fixed or not.
Switch to dedicated GPU.
If you have a gaming laptop with a dual graphics card, then the fatal error in the game might be because it’s using the integrated GPU. To fix it, follow the steps mentioned below.
- In the start menu search box, type graphics settings and open it, click on “Browse” and locate the .exe file of the game where you’ve installed it,
- After locating the exe file of the game, select it and click on “Add”, again click on the game and then click on “Options” and set it to High Performance. Once you’ve done that, click on “Save”.
- Doing so will let the windows utilize the dedicated GPU to run the game and this will fix the fatal error in Tales of Arise.
Install the latest Visual C++ redistributables.
If Tales of Arise is fetching you a fatal error, then it might be because of older C++ drivers in your PC. Install the latest Microsoft C++ Redistributables and DirectX files to fix the error. In case the error is still present after trying all the above-mentioned fixes, you can refer to this article and try out the methods listed in it.
We hope that you enjoyed reading this article, stay tuned for more updates about Tales of Arise, guides, news, and other stuff at Digistatement.
